You can often smell the buttery deliciousness from the street, and can certainly smell it when you walk into The Baker's Bench. It may smell like Paris, but the unpretentious yellow cinderblock building looks more like a scrappy little machine shop. It might not be anything to look at, but the food, *especially the pastries*, are the best around. The mini eclairs, mini cream puffs, and mini cream horns are my favorite. There are no vegetarian sandwiches on the menu but I always order a Swiss cheese, (romaine) lettuce, tomato, and mayo sandwich on Prairie bread. The freshly baked bread, which is also sold by the loaf, makes the sandwich really fantastic. I've been going to The Baker's Bench for the good part of 10 years--whenever I forget to bring my lunch to work, or if I just want to treat myself. The service is polite and prompt. I often call ahead and my sandwich and pastry are almost always waiting for me when I arrive, about 10 minutes later. Street parking is easily found behind the building on Cross Street, or next to the building on Brackett. The Baker's Bench is a jewel in Westbrook's crown, and a solid five stars.

Always high quality and consistent. I've never had a bad thing from here but the raspberry cheese croissant is to die for. Don't sleep on the croissant egg sandwiches either. My only wish is they were open on Sundays so I could enjoy them all weekend and take my out of town visitors here.

Best pastries around. Period. I could go everyday and have a bear claw the size of my face or a cream horn. But then again, I'd end up with diabetes and gaining a pound a day... but what a way to go.

A sugar- and gluten-lover's paradise! I recently purchased a decadent selection of cream horns and turnovers and cupcakes for the birthday of a friend with a sweet tooth. Best.gift.ever! The croissants are buttery, the scones are packed with flavor, and those enormous cinnamon rolls can't be beat. The prices and staff are awesome too!

I work up the road and noticed it driving around the city so I figured it was worth a shot. I'm happy to say that I was very pleased with my experience. The parking is at a premium so approaching could be difficult. Walking in I was immersed with the smell of fresh baked goods. The guy behind the counter immediately greeted me as I was reviewing the menu. I ordered a ham and cheese breakfast sandwich on a in house baked croissant. I also ordered 2 peanut butter frosted brownies and a cream horn. The sandwich was of great size and I was pleasantly surprised with the price point. The croissant was warm and chewy which made the sandwich melt in my mouth. The brownies and cream horn had very light and creamy toppings and was delicious. I'll be back and I'll be sure to tell others!

YES this place knows how to do pastries. Their pain au chocolat and savory croissants are flakey buttery crafted with care. Huge with no deficit to quality. Cranberry scone was so tasty! Flavorful and beautifully made. Lovely crumb. Also huge! Thankful to find a place with a savory pastry even just the one! Would absolutely come back here. So rare to find a place like this. Also they are super affordable.
